Hello Team
I am glad to be here in Forum.

Let me tell you that i have a issue with startx command. I have modified a file called xinit (/usr/bin), now its impossible to log in to fluxbox. Appears a message :

/usr/bin/startx :line 195: 1756 Segmentation fault xinit "$client" $clientargs --"$server" $display $serverargs.

Please i need some help to resolve this issue or any recommendation, i'll be very happy

Kind regards!

This is not a FB problem, it's an X problem.

I think modifying executables in /usr/bin is not a good idea. Your
system most likely provides mechanism for customization through config
files in /etc or in each user's home dir. Even if this is not the case
or you absolutely need to touch up a file there, your best option
probably would be to copy the file to /usr/local/bin and modify that
copy, letting the original alone and in place. /usr/local generally is
before /usr/bin in user's PATH.

I suggest to replace the original xinit and start over.

Best regards,
Fer

Thanks for your support Fernando.

Let me tell you that i did some probes in a machine virtual and i didn't have good resuts:

1: i have copied XINIT original file from virtual machine to original environment and it was a chaos , it doesn't works , but could you tell me how i must to build up a new xinit file?

really i have seen that file (pico /usr/bin/xinit) and it's incomprehensible that format .

i am searching some info to know how i must to build it new xinit file.

Best regards!

/usr/bin/xinit is a binary file. It is an executable program, not a
file you should be editing. You need to restore it from a backup, or
re-install the package it is a part of in your OS. Most linux distros
should let you re-install all of Xorg pretty easily.

Perhaps the file you meant to edit was ".xinit" in your home folder.
This is a text file that tells startx what to run for an X session. As
a rule of thumb, you should never edit any files in /usr/bin, /bin, or
any other "bin" directory, because they all all binaries that are not
meant to be edited.
