[Fluxbox-users] Very Slow Window Movement and Lag

Hi Fluxbox users,

With Opaque Window moving enabled when I move a Window around the screen it
lags behind the mouse pointer considerably. So much so that I can count a
number of seconds depending on how long I wiggle the mouse around the
screen before the window catches up. Typing in window (terminals etc) is
fine and loading windows is quick its mainly moving and resizing although
resizing is less noticeable as it doesn't draw the window as it resizes

I orginally thought it was something to do with X and my ATI Radeon card
and had been troubleshooting it from that perspective until I installed
openbox and e16 as a test and found that they run perfect and are nice and
fast.

I am running a minimal Debian Lenny AMD64 netinst.
Graphics card is an ATI Radeon 4850

I notice that if I use the "Vesa" driver it improves but the slow/lagging
window problem is still there just not as prominent.

Perhaps i'm missing some required fluxbox packages???

Hopefully someone knows whats going on or maybe Ih have found a bug?

Tried the latest version from Debian Unstable and still have same problems
I tried a few other WM's such as E17, FVWM and those run fine.

I hope someone has some ideas as i like fluxbox but might just have to use
one of the others

Its obviously a combination of the ATI/Xorg combo as I have v 1.0.0
installed on a Laptop with intel graphics and its works fine. Could it be
related to compositing etc?

Sorry, it is probably best if you advise me what information is helpful to
try and diagnose the problem.

Thanks

sure. compositing relies on fast 3d hardware.

another thing: do you move windows in fluxbox in opaque mode? in what
mode do you move windows in enlightenment or openbox? what font do you
use for the style you use?

cheers,
mathias

Yep I use opaque moving. Without it enabled its obvioulsy better but
the windows are still slow to appear in the new location after being moved.

At the moment i'm using zimek_darkblue which uses Sans i believe.

i have tried all sorts of options in xorg to resolve but nothing has
worked thus far.
