[Fluxbox-users] efficiency using GIMP

Hello. I had been looking for an efficient way to work with multi-window
applications like GIMP for long time. The special thing about gimp is
its document interface, tool box and dialogs are separate windows
belonging to the same application, and it make a lot of sense to be able
to see them all on the screen.

So, in order to work with GIMP efficiently I have to first carefully
move all these windows to different places on the screen, not
over-lapping each other. And when they are hidden behind another window
(e.g. Firefox), if I call up one of these windows (e.g. call up the
document), then all other windows should move to the same layer as the
document window.

Something similar was possible in enlightenment 1.6, called "Window
grouping", however the "window group" in flux box means something
different, the grouped window never appear together, just the opposite
to enlightenment where grouped window always appear together.

So, how do you use GIMP with fluxbox? do you suffer from the trouble of
brining different windows of GIMP to the top as I do? How do you solve it?

Best.

hi, what i would normally do is to have a desktop for the gimp, so i
have firefox o desktop one, eclipse on the second and gimp on the
third, also its a good idea to tell fluxbox to remember in what
desktop are the apps

Same here. I also ask fluxbox to remember the window position.

In addition I have the following in my ~/.fluxbox/keys file:

Mod4 g :ExecCommand if wmctrl -l | grep "GIMP"; then wmctrl -a "GIMP";
else gimp; fi

Thus, no matter which desktop is active, when I hit Mod4-g fluxbox
will take me to my "gimp desktop" and bring GIMP to the foreground.

emmm. I am getting smart on this. I shall use fluxbox to automatically
put all dialogs and toolboxes on top layer and set them as translucency
when they are not active. Somewhat I would get something close to this:

Here is how my configuration looks like

Hi Zang
How do you set your windows to be translucent in fluxbox, the
transparency options only seem to work for titlebars and menus.

Thanks

Hi. It works for me for all windows if I start xcompmgr -cC before start
fluxbox.

I am no expert on this, I just copy and pasted other people's code into
my xinitrc
