Hi all,

I am not sure if this is even possible under X or if fluxbox has just
not implemented it but is it possible to have the windows buttons /
title vertically on the left hand side?

Like so:

-----------------------
|x| |
|O| |
|_| |
|T| |
|i| |
|t| |
|l| |
|e| |
--- |
| |
| |
| |
---------------------

Cheers,

I had never even thought of that concept until you just brought it up. It
makes sense, since wide screens are more prevalent and the screen real
estate is more on the wide, then the tall.

Awesome idea. I think I'll have to +1 this :)

Yes, that was the idea. As screens get wider it makes sense to have
the bar on the sides instead of on the top! :)

Can you give a bit more information on how they've implemented?

Something like:

window.location {right, top, left, bottom} seems like it may be pretty simple
to do, although I'm not sure about the limitations of "drawing" out the
actual bar.

Funny, I couldn't find any e16 theme that allows that. Can you point me
to one?

Thanks,

So, would it be possible to implement this in fluxbox without changing X?

Tabs can be set to "Left top" placement, for example, which looks a lot like
the illustration. This involves drawing sideways and handling multiple
windows in a parent (Configure => Fluxbox => Tab Options => Placement). So
the concept is certainly proven and implemented already in fluxbox. Sadly it
was too long ago for me to remember details of how it relates to the main
window decoration.

Cheers,

- Simon
